What is Climb for Heroes?

Climb for Heroes is a non-competitive, family friendly, day hike accessible to all fitness levels and age groups.  The day has been planned to be a fun and successful experience for all who attend.  All tax deductible donations will go directly to The Heroes Project's mission to organize climbs to the highest peaks in the world, each with our injured marines, soldiers and veterans.  Just a few days after Climb for Heroes 2014, our team will be traveling to Mount Everest to take on our biggest expedition yet.  We are sending USMC Ssgt Charlie Linville to the highest peak on Earth.  Charlie is busy training for the 29,029 foot climb and we need your help to get him there.  Help send Charlie to Everest 2014!  At Climb for Heroes 2014, you will have an opportunity to be a part of team Operation Everest.  Meet Charlie and wish him luck as he takes this huge challenge on.  Video footage of all climbs will be used as part of advocacy and empowerment programs.  Among other uses, they will be distributed to all Walter Reed, Bethesda and Naval hospitals giving inspiration to our returning injured vets and their loved ones. Visit www.theheroesproject.org for more information on the foundation, its focus, Everest 2014, and to visit the online Heroes Project gift shop.

What will the Event look like?

We will depart from the trail head located at the top of the Mount Baldy Ski lifts parking lot on Sunday morning, March 23rd.  Check-in begins at 8:00 am and will continue until 10:00 am.  Tender Greens restaurant will supply all participants with a warm and delicious breakfast.  Camp 1 will be a mere 30 minutes to an hour from Base Camp.  At Camp 1, hikers will receive a coin that will be exchanged for a Heroes Project t-shirt at the end of the day.  At Camp 2, participants will receive a coin to be used towards lunch at the Top of the Notch (the ski area restaurant).  Hikers can turn around here, or continue to Camp 3.   At Camp 3, High Camp, and again at the Summit, participants will receive coins redeemable for goodies at the end of the day.  At any point, hikers can choose to return to Base Camp.  Mt. Baldy is 10,064 feet and the summit prize 2014 is amazing!  Back at Base Camp, coins will be traded for prizes and Tender Greens will once again serve delicious food.  The event will end at or before sundown depending upon participants chosen camp destination.  Your exact climbing route will be determined the morning of March 23rd by our founder, Tim, and our climbing Sherpa, Gyalbu. The safety of our participants is paramount and we promise a fun, safe and fulfilling day regardless of snow.

Prepare to be inspired!

Wounded and active duty vets will climb amongst us.  Children, dogs, and elderly will be participating.    You can climb with friends and family, form a team, or come alone and meet other climbers at the event.  Minimum donation is $100 per participant.  You can pay in full today when you register, or register for free now and fundraise to meet your goal.  There are GREAT prizes for highest fundraisers and with a $100 minimum, everyone can participate - but we encourage you to go for great prizes AND help send Charlie to Everest 2014!  If you are unable to join us, consider making a tax deductible donation by clicking “donate” above.  Every dollar makes a difference.
